Hypothetical head to head: Huckabee tops Obama?

Oh my!

Public Policy Polling recently released this poll in the aftermath of the Brown upset in Massachusetts and the results are stunning. I don’t remember any poll showing Obama losing to a GOP challenger up to this point so this is a noteworthy poll.

Mike Huckabee has a 45-44 advantage over Obama, aided largely by a 44-38 lead with independents. There continues to be no evidence of any negative fallout for Huckabee after murders of police officers committed by an ex-Arkansas inmate whose sentence he had commuted. His 35/29 favorability breakdown is actually slightly better than it was in November before that incident.

Mitt Romney does the next best, trailing Obama 44-42. His favorability is 36/32, and he’s the most popular Republican among independents (41/32). Romney actually matches Huckabee with GOP voters this month and gets over 50%, ending a trend in his numbers that had seemed to spell difficulty for snagging a Republican nomination.

Sarah Palin trails Obama 49-41 largely because she loses 14% of the Republican vote to him, making her the only one of the GOP candidates we tested who Obama could get double digit crossover support against. At the same time Palin continues to be the most well liked potential GOP candidate within her party- at 71% favorability. Her problem appears to be that the Republicans who don’t care for her will go so far as to vote for Obama instead of her.

Before all the rabid Palinites declare this poll to be completely irrelevant, there are other polls that there that would corroborate the PPP assessment that Palin loses to Obama due to the Republican cross-over voting in favor of Obama. According to a recent Fox News poll, it shows Sarah Palin losing 17% of the GOP vote to Barack Obama, giving him a solid lead against the former Alaskan governor.

16. What about if the candidates were: (ROTATE NAMES)

Democrat Republican (Don’t

Barack Obama Sarah Palin (Other) (Wouldn’t vote) know)

12-13 Jan 10 55% 31 4 4 5

Democrats 89% 5 1 1 3

Republicans 17% 68 6 6 4

Independents 56% 24 7 4 8

Time to take a second look at Mike Huckabee??

And do these numbers indicate why Mrs Palin is out campaigning for John McCain? Is it a play to get back that surprisingly large percentage of GOP voters that would defect?

Dede endorses the Dem

gop-troubleThat’s what 900,000 + in GOP money gets ya’ these days. From Fox News.com

Republican Dede Scozzafava endorsed her former Democratic opponent Sunday in the race for an upstate New York congressional seat, shaking up the contest for the second day in a row after exiting the race Saturday.

Scozzafava dropped out after Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman experienced a late-in-the-game surge. The move was expected to consolidate GOP voters behind Hoffman on Tuesday.

But on Sunday, Scozzafava issued a written statement in which she backed Democrat Bill Owens.

“I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same,” she said. “In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first.”

Hoffman and Owens are competing for the 23rd Congressional District seat formerly held by Republican John McHugh, who was lured away by the Obama administration to be Army secretary.

I am still wondering when the Republican “establishment” will come out and acknowledge their sheer ignorance in spending from their campaign coffers, throwing their weight behind this woman, all the while knowing her leftist tendencies. NRCC chair Pete Sessions is still blaming conservatives instead of admitting they made a boo-boo. Now that little boo-boo has cost them a million dollars that could have been put towards a candidate that meets the demographic of the district, and serves the Republican party base, as well as protecting the country from a leftist takeover.

After Dede dropped out, Newt Gingrich and some other GOP johnny- come-latelys decided to throw all in for Doug Hoffman, and with Scozzafavas announcement today, frankly they all have that permanent egg stain on their faces.

Scozzafavas entrenchment in the big labor movement was so obvious it is disturbing that the GOP didn’t take notice. From the NY Daily News via Michelle Malkin

At 10 p.m. last night – right in the middle of the Halloween festivities – Scozzafava’s husband, Ron McDougall, president of the Jefferson/Lewis/St. Lawrence Central Labor Council issued a statement through the AFL-CIO that he is endorsing Owens against Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

According to his statement, it basically all comes down to support of the labor movement’s top priority, the Employee Free Choice Act and its controversial card-check provision, which Owens and Scozzafava supported – much to the chagrin of the right – and Hoffman pointedly does not.

“This has been a difficult day for my family. But the needs and concerns of the men and women of the 23rd Congressional District remain paramount,” McDougall said. “As such, I wholeheartedly and without reservation endorse the candidacy of Bill Owens.”

“As a life-long labor activist, I know that Bill Owens understands the issues important to working people. On the other hand, Doug Hoffman has little regard for the interests of workers.”

“Hoffman’s opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, coupled with his support for the failed policies of the Bush Administration make him a poor choice to serve the citizens of the 23rd Congressional District.”

Everything about this woman screamed lefty Democrat. The GOP missed it, and its leadership is to blame. As long as the head of the “establishment” continues to try and play nice in the sand box, they will continue to stay anemic on the national stage. It’s become obvious that Michael Steele and the GOP leadership cannot lead, so I will say follow your base and we will lead you where you need to be.

Sen. Lindsey Graham is the definition of GOP weakness

For many years, having an “R” next to your name was good enough. Generally speaking, conservatives in this country were asleep at the wheel, and assumed that the “R” behind your name meant that you were a Republican and were going to carry forward the ideals set by the party. Well, now the silent majority has been awakened at the idea of an overtly socialist administration looking to “radically transform” our nation from everything that made us great into everything else that makes us no different from any other country on the planet. American “arrogance” as President Obama calls it, has been based on the fact that the American ideal has always been seen as the beacon of light in a dark world, and that fact brought millions upon millions to our shores searching for that freedom and liberty. That is what America is all about, thats what the Republican party used to be about. That is what the conservatives in this nation wish the GOP was about, and it is certainly what Lindsey Graham is not all about.

The wishy-washy so called conservative recently wrote in the NY Times an op-ed with Senator John Kerry expressing his middle of the road spineless support for the so called “Cap and Trade” Waxman-Markey energy bill that Sen. Kerry has been the point-man in the Senate on drafting their version. From the Washington Examiner…

Periodically, a Republican senator is seized with desire to be the front man for the Democrats’ latest regulatory monstrosity in Washington. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is now in the throes of this pathological urge, which usually appears just when defeat seems imminent for a big-government scheme like the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade energy bill. Democrats and their liberal buddies in the mainstream media need only whisper the magic word “bipartisanship” and soon enough along comes a gullible GOPer to take the bait.

Graham made clear in a Sunday New York Times op-ed written with Sen. John Kerry, D-MA, that he will support cap-and-trade if Democrats agree to expand nuclear power and off-shore oil and natural gas development. Kerry is the Senate point man in the Democrats’ campaign to pass a Senate version of the 1,400-plus page Waxman-Markey bill approved earlier this year by the House. Graham’s approach sounds like a reasonable “let’s just split the difference” compromise. The problem is that no matter what Kerry and the Democrats agree to now in order to sucker Graham and similarly na?ve Republicans, environmental activists and sympathetic federal bureaucrats will file endless legal and administrative challenges to stall and ultimately veto more nuclear power production or development of America’s bountiful off-shore energy supplies. Meanwhile, the Democrats’ cap-and-trade bill will almost immediately begin inflicting devastating economic consequences that will be with us for decades.

lindseyLindsey Graham, while claiming his conservative credentials is really nothing more than a big government Republican with only minor differences to the liberal Democrat party. He claims a pro-life stance, yet this summer we saw him as the only GOP’er to vote for Sonia Sotomayor, admittedly “against his own conscience”.  This gutless and naive behavior now moves forward with Cap and Trade which will decimate the United States economy, effectively crush manufacturing into oblivion, and create a government run energy market based around the junk-science that we know as global warming. Lindsey, what about your support equals conservative? A government controlled energy market is nothing more than a government takeover of a major segment of our economy. For those that don’t understand…federally manipulated markets are socialist. Free markets thrive, government controlled markets fail. Period. Cap and Trade we know is going to amount to an enormous energy tax, indirect as it may be, on every energy consumer in this country. Translated…EVERYONE. Yet Lindsey supports this 1400 page monstrosity. Enough from me, lets here from some other folks…starting with Glenn Beck.

Lindsey Graham, Olympia Snowe, John McCain and those like them are the reason for the decline of the GOP, and following their lead we will continue giving this country away to socialists to remake in the image of France.

Boehner just doesn’t get it

From Townhall.com

House Republican leader John Boehner says nationwide protests known as “tea parties” are the result of pushback against Democrats’ spending.

Boehner says his Democratic colleagues are “bankrupting” the country.

People are demonstrating and attending town hall meetings because, Boehner says, “we’re in the midst of a political rebellion in America.”

Sorry John, the teaparties are more than just an opportunity for you to play political games against your Democrat opponents.

I like John Boehner, he is truly one of the few conservatives left, but he is dead wrong with that statement. He clearly has missed the entire point.

boehnerBoehner (R-OH) is correct on one hand, we are definetely in the midst of a political rebellion in this country, but sorry to say it sir, this has nothing to do with Democrat vs.  Republican and everything to do with out of control government. That would be Democrat AND Republican.  It has everything to do with liberty and freedom from an oppressive government bent on ruling the lives of each American individual.

The discontent (although much quieter) started during the Clinton and Bush years. It has reached a boiling point now, as the American public made the grave mistake of electing a progressive (aka socialist) in 2008. I stood shoulder to shoulder for many hours with a life-long Democrat in DC on 9/12 , who was there voicing his discontent at the government. All of it.

The Constitution is the law that rules our land. Our government has abandoned it as a guide. The GOP and the Democrats are both to blame, plenty to go around John.

Do not use the people to play political games. Your gamesmanship is no longer going unnoticed.

The Anemic GOP – Lessons from 9/9/09

The GOP has shown its weakness in the face of a radical left agenda, thankfully grassroots conservative voters across the country are wide awake to what is happening with the agenda being driven by President Obama. Sadly, the GOP is behind the curve at every turn. Here are a few examples from tonight….

First, the Republican response to a combative, yet eloquent delivery of a radical socialist agenda…while the content of the speech is decent, the delivery and charisma is enough to put you to sleep.

Ok wake up people!! Dr. Charles Boustany is done putting you to sleep.

The potential big winner tonight was Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina. He said what likely a majority of Americans who have actually read the only bill available to the public were actually thinking. He yelled out “Liar!” in the middle of the supposed clearing up of the right wing smear that illegals would be able to obtain health insurance. It was a crowning moment for Mr. Wilson. It broke with decorum, it may have even been inappropriate. But finally, there was a Republican statesmen who realizes that we are in a literal fight for our very Republic, and he was willing to stand up and speak for all of us with two simple words. You lie!

Enter the poster child for GOP anemia. John McCain shortly after the address had ended demanded an apology from Mr. Wilson.

House Democratic Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) called Wilson’s outburst “embarrassing,” while McCain said it was “totally disrespectful” and that there was “no place for it in that setting or any other.”

McCain said Wilson “should apologize for it immediately.”

bidenpelosiobamaShortly thereafter, the hero of the night for conservatives across the country, and really across the world (the rest of the world does not want to see us descend into socialism) digressed into a lame apology for his conduct within the chamber. See, what I don’t understand is you said it, you meant it, why apologize for it? The constant cheering, hooting and hollering in favor or in dissent is appropriate, why not his little outburst?

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Oh yes, speaking of John McCain. This would be the same guy that at the very mention of  his name, and one of his ideas just fell all over himself with glee as we winked, waved and gave Obama the thumbs up. Sickening. These guys really don’t have a clue as to what is happening to the country they grew up in. Falling for flowery words is not the way to govern and legislate. It’s time to clear that chamber of all the ineptness that fills it.

It seems that Sarah Palin may in fact be the only “republican” out there who actually speaks for the people. And she is actually unafraid to take on the Washington power establishment.

Ok, I’ve gotten that out of my system for now…back into the fight to stop the freight train towards socialism.

Campaign Season 09

Political campaigning is in full swing for the 09 season.

Has the PoliticalFish lost its collective mind you ask? There are no elections this year, at least not on a national level. That is true, but we are seeing an unprecedented campaign this year. The President of the United States is running a full scale campaign against American citizens. And the joke is apparently on us, because we actually get to pay for his political campaigning. A reader brought up this point to me in yesterday’s article about the White House blog asking Americans to turn in their fellow citizens for dissenting against health care reform. He says:

Isn’t this an illegal use of government funds? I remember what happened with the Clinton’s database where they denied vehemently that they weren’t using government funds for political purposes, but this things by Obama seems like they are doing what Clinton was accused of doing secretly. Hopefully lawyers will get on this as it seems illegal for the White House to use taxpayer money to spy on taxpayers over a political thing.

To be totally honest, I am not sure of the legality of the issue, so at this point I would not even comment to that end, however in my memory I cannot remember a political campaign ever being waged against American citizens by a sitting US President. Maybe I am forgetting someone, and would love the feedback. Barack Obama has taken to the airwaves, press conferences, townhalls, and every other possible means denigrating the American citizens who pay his salary. He is not running against a GOP candidate. He is not running against the GOP party. He is running against a majority of US citizens who oppose his healthcare bill.

A majority you ask? Yes, a majority. Numerous polls speak to that fact.  According to an NPR poll:

However, when asked about the plan now moving through Congress, a plurality of 47 percent was opposed and 42 percent said they were in favor, based on what they had heard about the plan so far.

Thats one, ok…don’t worry there are plenty more. See more results here and here. Zogby and Rassmussen polling centers also both confirm, with Rassmussen polling indicating that 53% of Americans are opposed to the Congressional reform taking place (actually been put on ice for a month). Gallup tells us that while a majority of Americans believe that reform in the health care industry is neccesary, a  minority actually favor the plan moving through Congress currently. DailyKos is about the only website I was able to find where there is a majority in favor of healthcare as the President has stated it. That is of course no surprise, because generally speaking Kos readers are rabid far left liberals, and the polls taken on their site show that sort of bias. While none of these polls show an overwhelming majority, it is a majority none the less. All American citizens will agree on the fact that the healthcare system is broken, reform is needed. But that is not what HR 3200 is all about. HR 3200 is a full blown government takeover of what is already the best health system in the world.

So, the White House cannot and will not accept defeat on this matter. They have launched a full blown smear campaign against American citizens who are showing up at townhall meetings, bloggers like myself who write dissenting pieces, and normal citizens who don’t want government interference in the private sector. The polls show that Americans do NOT want the price tag that will come with this. The cost is too high, as are the taxes that will be attached to it. Tim Geithner opened his mouth Monday and told us all that the middle class may have to take the hit to pay for all this spending. The spin machine of the White House quickly flew into action dismissing his words. The White House email server sent this email out last week, here is an excerpt.

Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt

Speaking of misinformation and scare tactics….This one was sent out today.

So yes, fixing this crisis will not be easy. Our opponents will attack us every day for daring to try. It will require time, and hard work, and there will be days when we don’t know if we have anything more to give. But there comes a moment when we all have to choose between doing what’s easy, and doing what’s right.

This is one of those times. And moments like this are what this movement was built for. So, are you ready?

The administration continues to demonize American’s as liars, paid for by Fox News, the insurance industry, and other big business interest groups. Former Clinton crony, and Democratic strategist Lanny Davis wants ObamaCare protesters to be photographed and investigated. He says he intends to prove the connection. I’ll smile for that picture Lanny, I have nothing to hide except contempt for a Gestapo-type administration who simply cannot handle dissent. Trust me, I won’t hide it. Robert Gibbs took a swing at the “Brooks Brother Brigade” as proof of a vast right-wing conspiracy to try and hurt the President by defeating his signature bill. Linda Douglass wants Americans to turn in other Americans for speaking the truth about the healthcare bill. If the President doesn’t say it, it must be misinformation. Has the American public become so dumbed down, that we actually believe that politicians are telling us the truth? Your fellow citizens are the liars? Amazing.

Its all lunacy. What has happened to the country that I love? We have gotten now to the point where dissent against tyranny has turned our own President against us. It’s sad really.

For the real truth about healthcare reform….go read it yourself. Conservatives are not making this stuff up.

Sotomayor clears Senate panel

Judge Sonia Sotomayor today was cleared by the Senate Judiciary Commitee by a 13-6 vote along party lines, to be moved into the Senate for a full confirmation hearing to the Supreme Court of the United States. Party line vote, except for one….

Senator Lindsey Graham, who all but admitted he would vote against his conscience during his opening statement in the hearing, was the lone GOP vote that allowed Sotomayor to get past the committee and into a full vote. Rule 4 of the Judiciary committee states that the candidate needs at least one vote from the minority party in order to clear through the panel. Senator Graham saw to it today that he was that lone vote. The singular reason she is able to sweep into the Senate, where confirmation is all but guaranteed.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) wrote an op-ed in the USA Today yesterday detailing why he would vote against Judge Sotomayor, laying out clearly that her decisions (the majority of which have been overturned by the Supreme Court) go against the Constitution.

In the end, her testimony served as a repudiation of judicial activism. But pledging “fidelity to the law” and practicing judicial restraint are different things. Which Sotomayor will we get? At the hearings, which were praised for their substance and respectful tone, we looked closely at the record:

– Her 2006 private property decision permitted the government to take property from one developer and give it to another.

– Her 2008 Ricci decision allowed a city to discriminate against one group of firefighters because of their race. That ruling was recently reversed by the Supreme Court.

– Her 2009 Second Amendment decision would give states the power to ban firearms.

These rulings have three things in common. Each was contrary to the Constitution. Each was decided in a brief opinion, short on analysis. And each was consistent with liberal political thought.

I don’t believe that Judge Sotomayor has the deep-rooted convictions necessary to resist the siren call of judicial activism. She has evoked its mantra too often. As someone who cares deeply about our great heritage of law, I must withhold my consent.

Apparently, these clearly articulated Constitutional values do not hold water with Senator Graham. Apparently, the voices of his constituency do not hold water with Mr. Graham. Reagan.org along with a host of other conservative organizations in South Carolina and across the country pushed hard to convince Mr. Graham to vote with the Constitution. He chose today to enable the majority party to continue their slash and burn on our sacred founding document.

Senator Graham today exudes for all of us to see exactly what is wrong with the Republican party. Even moderate voices in the committee such as Senator Chuck Grassley and Senator Orrin Hatch could not bring themselves to vote in favor of Judge Sotomayor. Senator Graham showed a lack of conscience and principle in stating his opposition on ideological grounds, stating his distaste for her judicial philosophy, stating his entire mindset of political posturing and division, and voting her through anyways. Its spineless, and as I have opined before on this blog, dangerous for the GOP and for America.

Well done Senator Graham, your legacy had just changed. And it will live on throughout the career of nearly confirmed, future Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

You can believe that you will be hearing from your constituency today, and when you come back up for re-election.

Palin unfit for Presidency?

At least according to the Public Policy Polling

A new Public Policy Polling survey found that 55 percent of Americans think Sarah Palin is not fit to be president. Thirty-seven percent think she would be able to do the job.

As for her announcement last week that she was resigning as Alaska governor, 57 percent of respondents said that made them less likely to support her for president while 30 percent said it made them more likely to do so.

The poll of 923 likely voters was taken July 6-9 and has a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

Its always a joy to read these type of polls. Dean Debnam has for a long time been a heavy donor to the DNC, and has been running the PPP for 30 years. Not to imply that the poll is inaccurate (although I am) but there is large numbers of people who support Sarah Palin, many of whom are waiting for 2012 to come around to christen her as the next GOP candidate. The Political Fish does not hold that stance, however I find this poll pretty hard to believe. As one who does not believe Ms. Palin will be our next President, to say she is unfit is quite a stretch. Ironically, during the 2008 campaign, the DNC continuously pounded Palin for her lack of experience, touting the 36 year Senate career of Joe Biden as vastly superior. Conveniently left out of that argument is the fact that Biden has never governed anything, not even to mention that the same holds true for President Obama. Palin’s credentials include successfully governing the energy-rich state of Alaska, as well as being the mayor of Wasilla. While for some this doesn’t sound impressive, the governing credentials of our currently elected administration do not even match that.

President Obama spent 2 years in the United States Senate, refusing to take a vote on the majority of issues (conveniently leaving his entire ideology to the imagination). Prior to that he spent time in the Illinois state Senate, where he was widely regarded as a radical Chicago politician. Before that, community organizer. Highly unimpressive credentials for governing, and ZERO experience in governance. Biden, touted as the foreign policy expert from his 30+ years in the Senate has turned into the laughing stock of this administration. For the first few months Obama hid him from the press, recently unleashing him for his economic brilliance *end sarcasm here*

Saying all that to say this. Apparently given the current administrations lack of fitness for governance, have we lowered our level of “unfit” for the Presidency? Or is this poll part of a campaign to discredit Sarah Palin, when her credentials of governing far outweigh that of Obama/Biden? I think the answer is obvious.

Republicans FINALLY stand up for Honduras

Its now been two weeks since the Honduran military removed Manuel Zelaya from his palace. Western leaders such as Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, Evo Morales and their dictatorial ilk have repeatedly blasted the legal removal of Zelaya as a “coup”, finding suprise support from their counterpart in Washington DC, President Barack Obama. The American presidents alignment with these men has caused alarm across the blogosphere and across the country. The Political Fish has repeatedly blasted this administrations ignorance on the rule of Honduran law here, here, and here.

After two weeks, some of the GOP have awaken to the reality of the Honduran situation, finally coming forward and taking a position on the issue, and siding with the Honduran governments legal removal

“By calling this a coup and by early statements insisting on the reinstatement of Mr Zelaya, the administration now stands with the likes of (Hugo) Chavez, (Evo) Morales and (Daniel) Ortega, and not with the Honduran people,” Republican Connie Mack said during a hearing by a panel of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Zelaya was removed from office for his unconstitutional and illegal attempts to alter the constitution of Honduras for purely selfish reasons,” said Congressman Chris Smith, a Republican from New Jersey. The claim that the events that led to Zelaya’s ouster constituted a coup “melts under any serious scrutiny,” Smith added. “Rather, democracy and the rule of law triumphed over Mr Zelaya’s lawlessness”

In stark contrast, and not the least bit surprising…This from Democrat Eliot Engel, who chairs the House subcommitee on Western Hemisphere affairs:

“our hemisphere cannot tolerate what is essentially a military coup.” Zelaya, he admitted, “needed to listen. He did not,” when the Honduran political establishment expressed its concern over the proposed referendum, which was suspected as an attempt by the beleaguered leader to lift the one-term presidential term limit to seek re-election. But “this is not to say that those who deposed him were angels,” Engel said

As more and more of the Democratic Party and the establishment move towards this unbridled support of Socialist movements, We The People of the United States need to take notice and wonder what the future of this country may look like in ten years.

A spineless GOP is dangerous for America

The GOP has been in attack mode for the last few weeks. The attack machine of the so-called “conservative” party has been in overdrive. Unfortunately, they have been attacking all the wrong things. Most recently, you have the Republican hit machine taking swipes at the fact that President Obama took his wife out on a date this past weekend. The argument can be made (and its a good one) that this was an excessive abuse of his power. It was fiscally irresponsible, and could have even been poor judgement. All these things are probably true. At the end of the day, it will leave no lasting affect on the course of our country. It speaks only to the hypocrisy of our President as he calls on the nation to sacrifice and live within our means. This is obviously an issue for us to pay attention to. But is it really an issue that demands full blown attacks and statements and the “righteous anger” of the GOP? Follow me here for just a minute…

At the same time the GOP machine is taking major swings at the President for taking his wife on a lavish date, the same GOP who is outraged at this “heinous” lack of judgement have come out and basically admitted that Judge Sotomayor will be confirmed.  Senator John Cornyn has all but disavowed any criticism from “non-elected” officials and has withheld any statements against the Judge. Does it make sense to have such a strong backbone on something as inconsequential as a Friday night on the town, and then morph into a spineless blob on an issue that will directly effect the Constitution, the citizenry, and the Supreme Court for what is likely to be decades??

Confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor is the politically expedient thing for the GOP to do.  To filibuster, or to give her a major fight could possibly anger a growing political demographic. However, it appears to have not harmed the Democrats when they put Miguel Estrada through the ringer. They seemed to have come out on top of that argument.  At some point, politics needs to be put aside to stand for something that you believe in. Why are Republicans willing to compromise on issues that fly in the face of the core values of our country?? The problem with the GOP is that they truly do not believe in anything at all. The Democrats have been successful because everyone knows what they stand for and what they are all about. Their core values fly in the face of everything that is conservatism. Yet the GOP wants to embrace them in the middle of the road on these issues to try and sway the moderates. Its poor strategy. At the end of the day, Dems are likely to continue voting for Dems. As long as the GOP continues to alienate their base, they will continue to be an irrelevant fixture in the 2-party political arena.

When the GOP decides to stand true to its core beliefs, you can rest assured that their will be another “Republican Revolution” like we saw during the Clinton years. The public is fed up with the corruption, hypocrisy, and duplicitous behavior of the Dem Congress. Eventually they will get fed up with the socialistic drive of this president. At this point there is no viable alternative…the GOP needs to become the alternative soon, and if they can’t, dissolve it all together and create a real conservative party.
